The Deaf Team participating in this year’s tournament are made up of participants in the HKRU Community Foundation's weekly training sessions - over 40 boys and girls currently attend, drawn from both deaf schools and the wider community with the support of the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf and the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf. A number of the players have participated in the World Deaf 7s earlier this year and 10 boys and girls currently play in the Hong Kong Domestic League. The team is led by the HKRU’s first full time deaf coach, Winnie, whose role has been supported by the proceeds of last year’s tournament
